Not Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub or Dubstep. Part 4 – “Stuff”
March 20th, 2010
Here we go again and this is the last part of “Not Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub or Dubstep”
1.Back in the days – P.T.C-Crew
I and Arize have been working together for almost eight years with music and we’ve had some real fun doing it. Since Arize is part Dutch we decided to produce something dutch sounding….electronically dutch sounding. So we sat down for a week during the summer in 2005, pounding the studio with some old school hardcore techno. The result was the album “Gunnerizing“. Fact: Almost every time we sit down in the studio, stupidity rules. We tend to play around for hours, days even before doing something concrete.

Me and Flim had to go through a lot of wierd projects
before we finally were able to produce the CoffeShop album. Our collab was something new that had to be tested and experimented with, and so we did. We made a few songs that got “trashed” and here is one of those wierd projects.
Flim n’ Foona – Enter Coffeshop (democlip) Album: Lost Songs / Unreleased
Game Music
I worked a lot with game based music in my years. I’ve mainly made music for fantasy based games since that’s my favorite genre when it comes to RPG games. Here is a very old track that I made for an RPG game I was developing (that project totally died). I can ad that the game I was working on was based on the Final Fantasy series that I love so much. Imagine walking through an Ice cave when listening to this track.
Jngaelin – Sassou ICE CAVERN.2 (democlip) Album: Siforia Soundtrack / Unreleased
2. Nowaydays
Every time a friend visits me I always take the opportunity of doing something creative. This is a fun way of getting to know someone on a different plane then just going out drinking or watching movies etc. This is a project I made with Alexander Vagianakiz, an old friend that lives in Greece now. He and his brother Andreas usually comes once a year for a visit and at the last visit we made this trashy track together.
Foona n’ Bolloxology – Invaders (democlip) Album: Borderline / Unreleased
In this time I have no more parts of this series planned. I’ll have to dig deeper into my old archives and see if there might be some stuff I left out (there most probably is).
Till next time, stay tuned people!

Not Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub or Dubstep. Part 3 – “Nick’s”
March 16th, 2010
I’ve had some technical difficulties during the weekend but i finally solved it. Here is part 3 of Not Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub or Dubstep.
I’ve used a lot of different nicknames in the past for various projects, so I decided to gather some of my old stuff. Going back once in a while checking on your old work is healthy. This way you can see how you have evolved and what you need to work on. I admit I don’t do this very often.
1.Back In the Days
Jngaelin
I started using this nick roughly about eleven years ago.
The first genres I started working with where HipHop, Djungle and Drum & Base. These genres together with Reggae have always been the biggest influences for me. Sure I listened to a lot of other kinds of music but when I produced these where the main genres. I then started incorporating “world music” into my projects and discovered that no matter what music I was working with, I was always happy with what I was doing

Twentif Orbit 9.6
About nine years back I also started using the nick “Twentif Orbit 9.6”. I have been a huge fan of “Astral projection” since they started out, and for a very long time I tried to walk in their footsteps. I started producing Psychedelic Trance, Chill Out, Goa, Gabber and I did that for maybe six years. This was one of the most fun periods in my life. Alot of dancing I tell you”

2.Nowadays
I experimented a lot with styles and sounds but I never seemed to get where I wanted to go. So I stopped and
went on with other kinds of music instead. This was a good thing cause I recently started producing within this genre again and discovered exactly what was missing. Two years ago I threw myself into the world of Do-It-Yourself electronics and after finishing one of my most important project I made a song. I was building a SID synthesizer using real SID chips from two old “Comodore 64” computers. As soon as I was done with the build I produced a song using this newly built SID synthesizer. I completely love what this magnificent machine can do. I will be putting up a post regarding this DIY project in the near future so keep your eyes open.
Twentif Orbit 9.6 – Mosquitos (democlip) Album: Circuits / Unreleased / Song Released in 2009
If you like the song then I am happy to announce that this song is free, and that you can download it right here.

This time I’ll start in reversed order and do the “Back in the days” part first.
1.Back in the days – “P.T.C-Crew Beat Circle”
A few years back we started something called the “Beat Circle” in the P.T.C-Crew. All the members sent each other beat packs with started songs in it. It usually started with on member creating a drum loop. This member would then send this drum loop to another member within the P.T.C-Crew requesting a baseline. When that member was done he sent the drum loop together with the baseline to another member, requesting another instrument to be put on it. We had alot of fun doing this and many times ended up doing wicked stuff. Here are some clips from the BeatCircle – “Beats” folder. These are unfinished beats.
P.T.C-Crew BC – Millie
P.T.C-Crew BC – Marmelade
P.T.C-Crew BC – Jululu? …sometimes it just goes wrong…
P.T.C-Crew BC – Alot of Sven
2.Nowadays – “Bobby n’ Foona“ Beat Circle
I recently started a Beat Circle together with Daniel Bäckström aka “BobbyGunnar” a member from “Svenska Elektronik Forumet” (The Swedish Electronics Forum). He also exists on myspace and right now there are two nice tunes in his player. He produces mostly 8-bit style music but also other types of mashed up techno. I totally love what this guy does and if you visit his myspace, make sure you listen to the song called “All These Years” for some real “Hero SID” sounds! Either way I just knew a Beat Circle together with him would be fun so I asked him about it and he sad yes.
Step 1. I created the drumloop
Step 2. Bobby added baseline
Step 3. I Foona added organs
Step 4. Bobby put his hands on the keys and of it went
Step 5. Doesen’t exist yet since this project is an ongoing one. Stay tuned to hear the result.
If you’re a musician professional or even a amateur, start your own beat circles and see what happens.
Stay tuned for “Part 2″ of “Not Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub or Dubstep”
